DENOS Lab organizes the IEEE Stablecoin and Agentic AI Forum in Calgary

Jul 28, 2026

DENOS Lab successfully organized the IEEE Stablecoin and Agentic AI Forum on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in the Indigo Room of the Alt Hotel Calgary University District. Dr. Henry Leung and Dr. Steve Drew of the Schulich School of Engineering led the organizing committee, with sponsorship from the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, ATB Financial, and the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. The forum set out to train talents for the era of stablecoins and agentic AI, bringing practitioners, founders, regulators, and researchers into one room where finance and artificial intelligence meet.

The full day program opened with keynotes on stablecoins, digital assets, and regulatory frameworks, featuring Brian Ford, Vice President and Head of Business Solutions and Digital Assets at ATB Financial, and Mohamed Zohiri, Legal Counsel at the Alberta Securities Commission. The afternoon turned to agentic AI, security, and emerging market opportunities with talks from Dr. Jiayu Zhou, Professor of AI at the University of Michigan, Dr. Marius Zoican, Associate Professor of Finance at the Haskayne School of Business, and Dr. Steve Drew. Industry perspectives came from founders and leaders across the ecosystem, including Kevin Zhang of Loon, Youssef Harkati of BrightOnLABS, Koleya Karringten of the Canadian Blockchain Consortium, Jade Alberts of Blockchain Insurance Inc., Julie Brunias of Videotron, and Felipe Priuli of Tetra Digital Group.

A central thread throughout the day was co-designing fintech curriculum with industry partners to strengthen Alberta’s talent pipeline, and the forum closed with a panel on youth pathways into fintech. The event reflects the lab’s growing role in connecting its work on distributed learning, agentic simulation and reasoning with the financial technology community in Calgary and beyond. Details and the full agenda are available on the forum website.
