City St George's Professor Raj Rajarajan visits DENOS

Dr. Raj Rajarajan visited the University of Calgary and DENOS Lab on August 31, 2026, meeting Dr. Steve Drew at the Schulich School of Engineering to talk through the research interests on both sides and where the two groups might work together.

Dr. Rajarajan is Professor of Security Engineering and Director of the Institute for Cyber Security in the School of Science and Technology at City St George’s, University of London, and co-director of the Centre for Online Safety, Safeguarding, Privacy and Identity that he established there. His research runs across privacy preserving data management, Internet of Things privacy, network intrusion detection, cloud security, and identity management built on blockchain, with more than 300 published papers behind it.

The overlap with the lab is not hard to see. DENOS Lab builds federated learning systems that train across hospitals, banks, and edge devices without moving anyone’s data, and those deployments raise exactly the privacy and trust questions Dr. Rajarajan works on, from what one participant can infer about another to how identity and access hold up between organizations that do not fully trust each other.
